A
list of all definitions (mostly used as a warning) that are related to
Anime, Manga, Doujinshi, Fan Fiction/Arts and even Games.

A/N
- Short for "Author's Note". The Author inserts some sort of note
somewhere in the story. Either to elaborate a part/passage/sentence, or
at the beginning/ending as a comment.
AU - Short for "Alternative Universe", meaning that the characters of a fandom are placed into completely different surroundings.
Angst - An intense feeling of strife, anxiousness, self doubt and uncertainty on the part of one or more characters.
Author Fic - The Author him/herself appears in the story.


BDSM
- is a complex acronym derived from the terms bondage and discipline
(B&D, B/D, BD), dominance and submission (D&S, D/S, DS), sadism
and masochism (S&M, S/M, SM). BDSM includes a wide spectrum of
activities and forms of interpersonal relationships. While not always
overtly sexual in nature, the activities and relationships within a
BDSM context are almost always eroticized by the participants in some
fashion.
Beast - short for
"Bestiality", meaning that a character has a sexual intercourse with an
animal (and sometimes fantasy beasts e.g. Pokemon)
Beta-reader - a person that re-reads and checks a finished story/chapter for grammatical or clerical errors.
Bondage - A character in the story/Manga/Doujinshi/Anime being tied up or otherwise restrained for pleasure (cuffs, collar, rope...)


Challange
- A writers challenge often held as a contest, but not necessarily one
with winners or a price. Volunteers write fiction based on certain
instructions. (specified amount of words, a stated subject-matter,
certain words have to appear in the story, The fic has to begin/end
with a given sentence etc.)
Chapter Fic- A fan fic with a continuing plot and multiple chapters.
Character Death / Death fic - one or more (often main) characters in the story die.
CD
- or Xdress, short for "Crossdressing". One or more characters in the
story wear clothes that are made for the opposite sex. (e.g.: a boy
wearing a dress, A girl wearing a tuxedo)
Crossover/X-over
- two or more fandoms collide in the story. All combinations are valid
(two characters from different fandoms meet in an Alternate Universe;
characters from one fandom appear in the world of another fandom; etc.)


Darkfic - The fic contains lots of angst, death, depressions, violence and other gloomy themes
Disclaimer
- Exclusion of liability. Authors write a disclaimer to remind that
they do not own any characters or the fandom used in their fan fiction
and that they write only for the sake of entertainment, not to earn
money.
Drabble - A completed story with roughly 100 words. Mainly just a short snapshot of feelings or a life situation


*Fandom* meets real life - People from a specified fandom land in our real world.
Fet
- Short for "Fetishism". One or more characters in the Story
(fiction/Manga/Doujinshi/Anime) have a fetish. There are many
definitions of fetishism, but it mostly refers to the sexual fetish and
means that a person is sexually attracted to materials and objects or
certain body parts (e.g. feet)
FemSlash
- A relationship between females, including all sorts of sexual
interaction or just romance / implied girl's love. Western definition
of Yuri/Shoujo-Ai.
Ficlet - A short story with no further chapters, the word count hardly ever goes above 2000.
Fluff - Overly sweet romantic content, including lots of blushing, cuddling, kissing etc.
Futa
- short for the Japanese term "Futanari", meaning hermaphrodites,
intersex or other individuals with female body-types and sexual organs
resembling penises, whether or not those organs are in fact enlarged
clitorises, or they possess both male and female reproductive organs.
Technically, the term also encompasses male characters with both sets
of sexual organs, but these are usually excluded.


Gary Sue/Marty Sue
- Male authors themselves take on the lead role under a different name
in their stories. They presonate themselves in a way they actually want
to be in real life and add a few special abilities. The reverse version
of a 'Mary Sue' fiction.
Gangbang - is a situation in which a person has sexual intercourse with multiple partners in turn or at the same time
Genre
- from Latin "genus" is a loose set of criteria for a category of
composition. (e.g.: Action, Adventure, Angst, Comedy, Crime, Drama,
Fantasy, Fluff, Horror, Humor, Hurt/Comfort, Mystery, Romance, Suspense, etc.)


HET - Story based on a heterosexual relationship (m/f)
H/C-
Short for "Hurt/Comfort". One character is going through a traumatic
experience (e.g. abuse, non-con, broken heart etc.) and another
character comforts him/her.


IC
- Short for "In Character", meaning that the personality of a character
in the fan fic is portrayed authentically in comparison with the
original (contra-part of OOC - Out Of Character).


Lemon - explicit sexual activities
Lime - indicated sexual activities
Loli
- or Lolicon, short for "Lolita Complex". A term referring to a person
that is sexually attracted towards a young and/or underage girl. There
are at least three possible combinations: 1.) two underage girls; 2.) a
male adult and a girl / boy and girl (straight loli); 3.) a female
adult and girl. In most cases all contain explicit sexual interaction.


Mary Sue
- Female Authors themselves take on the lead role under a different
name in their stories. They presonate themselves in a way they actually
want to be in real life and add a few special abilities.
Mpreg
- Short for "Male Pregnancy". One or more male characters in the story
get pregnant and eventually give birth. Given reasons are mostly
curses, spells etc.


Non-con - Short for "non-consensual sex". One character is unwillingly forced into sexual intercourse. With other words rape.


OC - Short for "Original/Own Character". The Author makes up his own character for a certain fandom.
OFC - Short for "Original/Own Female Character". The Author makes up his own female character for a certain fandom.
OMC - Short for "Original/Own Male Character". The Author makes up his own male character for a certain fandom.
OOC
- Short for "Out Of Character", meaning that one or more characters
from a certain fandom are acting differently from their usual behavior
in the original context.
One Shot
- A fan fic/manga/doujinshi/anime without a continuing plot or further
chapters/volumes/episodes. The story starts and ends all in one part.
Original Fic
- The author makes up everything that appears in the story. There are
no known places, persons or actions from existing fandoms involved.
OVA
- Short for "Original Video animation". A term originating from
Japanese animation (anime) for animated films and series which are made
specially to be released on home video formats. The majority are
released direct-to-video, without prior showings on TV or in theatres


POV
- Short for "Point Of View". Authors use it combined with the Name of a
character they're currently writing about, so that readers don't
different points of view confused. That occurs mainly in stories
written in the first person. (e.g.: Light's POV: I couldn't stand the constant rattling of the chain any longer...)
PWP - Short for "Plot? What Plot?". No plot, just sex.
Post Fiction - The plot in these fan fictions begin, when the original plot of a fandom ends.


Rape (/fic)
- The main plot of the story evolves around a character that is is
unwillingly forced into sexual intercourse. The more brutal version of
non-con.
Rating - Ratings
are very important for all readers and viewers; they classify certain
fictions, Manga, Doujinshi and Anime into appropriate age-groups. There
are several rating systems used on the www a couple of them can be
viewed at the bottom of this page.
Real life meets *Fandom* - People (mostly authors themselves) from the real world end up in a fandom.
RPF
- Short for "Real Person Fiction". EITHER 1.) a real person
(actor/actress e.g. Orlando Bloom) appears in a movie/series/fandom
(e.g. Lord of the Rings), replacing the role they're playing (e.g.
Legolas). OR 2.) fiction evolving around the actors/actresses from a
certain movie/series/fandoms (mostly during the filming).
RPS
- Short for "Real Person Slash". The same as RPF, only with male on
male / female on female relationships/interaction thrown in.
R/R - Short for "Read and Review". Which should mean that the author appreciates comments and reviews form readers.


Sap - A juicy, weepy story, involving cheesy, dramatic life situations or romance.
Series - A manga/doujinshi/anime with a continuing plot and multiple chapters/volumes/episodes.
Shoujo ai
- A relationship between females, including mellow sexual interaction
or just romance / implied girl's love. Basically a cleaner version of
Yuri.
Shounen ai - A
relationship between males, including mellow sexual interaction or just
romance / implied boy's love. Basically a cleaner version of Yaoi.
Shota - or Shotacon, short for "Shotaro Complex" (Shotaro being a young male character from 'Tetsujin 28-go'). A term referring to a person that is sexually attracted towards a young and/or underage boy. There are at least three possible
combinations: 1.) two underage boys; 2.) a male adult and a boy; 3.) a
female adult and a boy / girl and boy (straight Shota). In most cases
all contain explicit sexual interaction.
Slash
- A relationship between males, including all sorts of sexual
interaction or just romance / implied boy's love. Western definition of
Yaoi/Shounen-Ai.
Snuff - This term refers to the ensuing death of a victim after non-consensual sex.
Song Fic - A story evolving around one or more songs, emphasizing the mood or actions of characters in certain situations.


TBC - Short for "To Be Continued", meaning that the story will have multiple chapters and is not finished yet.
Tent
- Short for "Tentacles". Stories in which one or more characters have
(In most cases non-con) sexual intercourse with (a beast consisting of)
tentacles.


WIP - Short for "Work In Progress". The story is not finished yet; the author is still writing a new chapter.


Yaoi - A relationship between males, including sexual intercourse of some sort. In most cases very explicit.
Yuri - A relationship between females, including sexual intercourse of some sort. In most cases very explicit.

(AA = All Ages)
All ages can watch/read the Anime/Movie/manga.
PG = Parental Guidance Suggested
Anime/Movie/manga may not be suitable for children.
PG-13 = Parental Strongly Cautioned
Some content may not be suitable for children under 13.
R = Restricted
Material contains sexual, swearing or violent content.
NC-17 = No children under 17
No one under the age of 18 may read/watch. Explicit content for this rating.

►FAN FICTION RATINGS:
B
- Intended for preschool level and younger children between the ages of
1 and 4. Content should be free of any coarse language, violence, adult
themes, and ideas very young children cannot comprehend.
K - Intended for general audience 5 years and older. Content should be free of any coarse language, violence, and adult themes.
K+
- Suitable for more mature children, 9 years and older, with minor
action violence without serious injury. May contain mild coarse
language. Should not contain any adult themes.
T - Suitable for teens, 13 years and older, with some violence, minor coarse language, and minor suggestive adult themes.
M
- Not suitable for children or teens below the age of 16 with possible
strong but non-explicit adult themes, references to violence, and
strong coarse language.
MA - Content is only suitable for mature adults. May contain explicit language and adult themes.
